A beautiful English garden can be the ideal calm and tranquil setting for a wedding, particularly if you have a flair for vintage inspired themes. There are so many country manor houses in the UK that make stunning wedding venues, that you really are spoilt for choice, no matter whether you are up in the Scottish highlands or down in the South coast. I think what makes this theme so elegant is the abundant use of natural features, plenty of foliage, flowers and wooden textures and it is a relatively easy theme to master because inspiration is literally all around you. Stick to colours that you find in your garden, soft lighting and romantic decor and you won’t go far wrong.

One of my favourite ways to do a traditional english garden wedding is to put up a marquee in the ground of a country manor, this way you get the beautiful back drop of the rolling fields and house yet you also get plenty of natural lighting (perfect for pictures) and get to enjoy the sunny weather. In a wedding I went to recently, the fact that it was set outside meant that we were close to the amazing water features and lake that surrounded the property which added a little extra something for me, on top of this the groom also turned up on a vintage motorcycle which added that extra classic detail and he didn’t fall off…phew!

Not only is the English garden wedding a great idea aesthetically but it needn’t break the back either because the UK lends itself so naturally to this theme so it can be done as moderately or over the top as you like. By adding a simple bunch of summer flowers to a plain white dress or a nature inspired necklace such as this one (which can also act as your something blue) you can add a little extra English rose charm to your bridal outfit.

In my opinion an outdoor wedding really comes into it’s own in the evening when the sun begins to dim, it gets a little cooler and the music gets a little louder. I don’t know about you, but for me there’s something really romantic and special about a wedding party taking place at the bottom of a garden in a white marquee lit up by fairy lights and lanterns. Again, English gardens are perfect for this because you are out of the way, in tons of countryside where you won’t bother anyone, guests can sill out onto the lawns and you can make as much noise as you like…all ingredients for a memorable night of dancing!

My final touch that I would add to a English garden wedding is the photography, that will capture all of those magical moments throughout the day. If you take a look on Pinterest, you won’t struggle to find inspirational images of similar wedding days and for any brides or grooms to be, fill your boots! I’d recommend this as your first port of call. Head to the venue before the big day with your photographer so that you can discuss your exact requirements and areas that you both will think are particularly picturesque. Beautifully paved drives leading up to a backlit house look stunning and elegant in pictures and should be taken at certain times of the day to make the most of the natural light. Be sure that you get plenty of snaps from the minute you wake up to the moment the last guest leaves…an English garden wedding is definitely one to remember!
